More Al Yankovic

Temper Temper

Many of us who live outside the (geographical at least) borders of The Great Satan may not recognise this man. If you do, he needs no introduction. Some people see him as a man unafraid to voice his opinion in a climate of political correctness, while some think he is under the control of a race of space lizards. All I know is he's a cunt.

The Chop Shop Podcast 17 - DJ Goldy

Would YOU like to grab a grand?

Maybe, like me, you need a new mixer, or maybe the guttering needs to be replaced. Either way, here's your chance courtesy of the latest podcast from the always quality Chop Shop.

Volume 17 comes courtesy of long-time DJ and one half of Ufeari, our own DJ Goldy. The mix has no tracklist, so if you can figure out every track used, email your tracklist to thechopshoppodcast@gmail.com and the euros are yours.

CLICK THE PIC or right click and SAVE AS

In Goldy's own words:

“EH A MIX IN THE VEIN OF STENSKI MEETS JAH SHAKA IN AN ECHO CHAMBER HAVING A SPLIFF WITH TOM WAITS WHILST MULLING OVER “IS HEAVYMETAL COOL?” ………MEANWHILE THE “YA JUST BEEN SILLY CROWD” ASKED WHAT MUPPET ALLOWED HIM ON THE DECKS.THE DOCTOR IN CHARGE OF CHECKING DENTURES REPORTED IT WAS CREATED ON TWO TURNTABLES AND THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED WHEN IT WAS BEEN TRANSPORTED TO HOTH SOMEHOW THE TAPE JUST GOT MANGLED.
RUMORED TO BE SUB TITLED THE “GRAB A GRAND” MIX IF YA CAN NAME ALL THE TRACKS, HILARY CLINTON SAID “I’M A PUPPET”.
IN TRUTH NO THOUGHT WHATSOEVER WENT INTO IT,ALL TRACKS FEATURED JUST HAPPENED TO BE AT HAND WHEN I WAS ASKED TO DO IT…….THE SKITS,INTERLUDES AND DUBS ARE JUST BASED ON WHAT I WAS WATCHING OR THINKING LAST WEEK.

“ALL GREAT MIXTAPES HAVE TO END WITH A TOM WAITS SONG” - SOME FRUITY F*CKER ON YOUTUBE BUT HE HAS A POINT.“

Tropical Heatwave @Traffic

This Friday Night also sees the DJs over at Raidio Na Life taking over Traffic for 'Tropical Heatwave', a fund (and roof) raiser for the radio station so they can buy a brand new pair of turntables. If you, like me, enjoy the sounds that drift across Dublin as gaeilge gach oíche ar 106.4FM, maybe you should consider giving something back to these hard working sufferers.
8 euro each should just about do it...

Expect plenty Reggae/Bashment/Other Things

Rusko @Get Low Rescheduled

Ignore the date on the poster folks, this one has been postponed and rescheduled for 19th July, before he hits Sonar. Updates will be posted, should be the Get Low lads and Myself in support.

Rusko - Cockney Knees Up Mix

Colz 'Escapades'

A rhythm that was originally done for Ghost 'n' Jay around '04 or '05, but which surprisingly never got completed as a vocal track. This is a rudimentary bedroom mixdown of the track, it runs about 100bpm or thereabouts. I'm so used to it as an instrumental, and I heard DJ Halfdutch play it on her show last night with some vocals spun over it and it brought it back to life for me. So, here it is, minus vocals and nice radio compression.

DIG @Rí Rá Line Up

A great line up for Summer at DIG, featuring some of my favourite Dublin DJ's. Kicking it off this Friday night is DJ Mek. To get warmed up, here's some old footage of the man himself rocking the long gone Funnel club back in '99, with DJ Pogo on mic duty.

Dirty Rug Gets Pulled From Under Collective

The second Dirty Collective get together, which was scheduled for the coming bank holiday(in Ireland) sunday, has had its plug board pulled out. Organised by 16Hz himself aka Simon Lynch, its aim was (just like the first one, organised by Grizzle) to give Irish Grime and Dubstep producers a chance to be heard outside of Myspace and their bedroom studios, in a live context, and with a decent sound.

The First DC

It was also important to us as a way of letting Irish audiences hear what was being made by producers they would never have heard of in Dublin's small and sometimes cliquey club scene. I was particularly looking forward to the Dublin debut of Cork's Radikal Guru, who has a forthcoming release on 2nd Drop Records. More on that soon....

Aparently, the plan was to have us in one room and !Kaboogie in the other with their headliner Starkey. I've no idea why it was pulled or who has replaced us in t'other room.

Feel free to comment / leave conspiracy theories / pleas for peace and love

Codebreaker Live Mix 1998

I've been searching around for this elusive little recording for some time now, and lo and behold I've found it. This is a recording of a 'live' or as live as could be done mix of tracks from 96/97 by myself and Grizzle, for a project known as Codebreaker, when I went under the solo moniker of CFX (highly original) and Griz was known as Sly.

We were both producing d'n'b tunes a few years, but I reckon its fair to say we were a bit jaded at this stage with the music and had moved into other spheres already. And so, this recording is our last ever gig doing our d'n'b tracks out live in Dublin. The gig was a cold and damp night in the SFX somewhere in Winter 1997. The tracks sound like hardcore nosebleeds to me now, but I'm glad I recorded the set as they don't survive in any other form.

Here's a rudimentary tracklist:

01. Bring It On (CFX)
02. Go For The Kill (CFX)
03. Close Encounters (CFX)
04. C4 (CFX)
05. Private Sly (SLY)

( audio stops here for some reason, give it a few seconds....)

06. John Public (CFX)
07. Unknown (SLY)
08. Take (CFX)
09. Stalker(version) (CFX)
10. Down (CFX)
11. Roll On Request (CFX)
12. Control (CFX)
13. Industry Jam (SLY)
14. Industry Jam(CFX Remix)

T-Woc 'Believe (In A World Of Sorrow)'

T-Woc with Lariman

A Track that appeared in an early incarnation on the Full Irish Special,
'Believe' by T-Woc, my personal favourite so far, is forthcoming on Alphabet Set Records, soon enough but no release date as yet. So, in the meantime, check this exclusive snippet for a taste of things to come...

DJ Colz May Madness Mix

Well, due to financial worries there aint much new vinyl in the gaff this May, so Ive got the baby wipes out and dusted down some of the old vinyl for this compilation.

This mix spans '98 - 06 ( apart from track 12, a recent remix ),and is largely focused on the transitions from UK Garage forward into Grime and Dubstep, before the lurching half step became ubiquitous. Some real favourites of mine here, mixed shoddily as ever and with level jumps all over the place, its best appreciated in the sunshine and with a few scoops down yer neck. Enjoy the vibe. Thanks to Grizzle for Tracks 18 and 22, ruffness....

Bionic Returns

Last month saw the return to the stage of MC Bionic at Oxjam across the water. Its a very short clip, but one I've found myself watching repeatedly since I was alerted to it by DJ Mek.

For those that dont know, ex-London Posse founder member and the man who deserves the credit for giving the UK its own unique MC style in a time of fake american twangs, Bionic is a sometimes unsung hero. Uwot, who posted this video, has more footage to upload, and will do so if you leave a comment on this one. Off you go....

Gemmy 'Supligen'

Bristolian Grime / Dubstep Producer Gemmy is one to watch in the near future. This track, 'Supligen' was recorded from the Terrorhythm show on Rinse. Good to hear someone ploughing their own furrow as they say. Check below.

Colz 'The Warning'

Here's another one-I-made-earlier scenario for download, a track I made in early 2007 called 'The Warning'. Stephen of Get Low requested this one so its all his fault. By the way, all audio is downloadable in this blog, just click where it says 'divshare' on the player and you'll be whisked away to a magical place. Hmmm.

T-woc and Brother Culture 'Dub Warning'

Here's a great vinyl release from T-woc,
featuring the formidable talents of sound system stalwart Brother Culture.

Rusko Cockney Knees Up

Well, the summer feels like its finally arrived this week, the weekend was the business at Get Low in Galway city, with the sounds provided by the lads themselves, plus a deadly set by local bwai Kanobi, myself on the turntables, and the man like Milanese threw down a live set of grimy bashment.

Milanese vs Galway Duck

The crowd were shocking out and didnt want to leave the floor at closing time...Galway crowds know how to enjoy themselves.

Shiny Happy Galway Punters

With that in mind, the 31st of May sees the Irish debut of none other than Rusko, bringing his high octane sound to Galway City.
